Configure Ads Account

Connect, configure, and manage your Google Ads accounts — tracking, exclusions, campaigns, and account settings.

This page covers everything about connecting and configuring Google Ads accounts in ClickFortify — from initial setup to advanced tracking and exclusion settings.

Configure Ads Account

Connecting a New Account

  1. Go to Space Settings → PPC Accounts
  2. Click Add Account
  3. Complete Google OAuth authentication in the popup window
  4. Select the Google Ads account to connect
  5. For MCC (Manager) accounts, select the child account you want to protect
  6. Choose your initial setup options:
OptionRecommendedDescription
Set Tracking TemplateYesAutomatically adds the tracking template to your ad account
Set Custom AudienceYesCreates a custom audience for exclusion targeting
  1. Click Connect Account

You need admin access to the Google Ads account. Read-only access is not sufficient for ClickFortify to manage exclusions.

Account Settings

Once connected, click on any account to open its settings panel.

Basic Information

FieldDescription
Account NameEditable label for this account
Account NumberRead-only — your Google Ads account ID
StatusActive, Paused, or Error
CurrencyThe currency used for this account
TimezoneThe timezone for reporting
ColorA color code for visual identification in the UI

Connection Status

Each account shows its connection health:

StatusMeaning
OKConnected and syncing normally
UNLINKEDOAuth access revoked — needs reauthorization

Use the Synchronize button to pull fresh campaign data, re-read tracking settings, and update campaign statuses from Google Ads.

If a connection shows UNLINKED, sync alone will not fix it — you need to reauthorize the Google account. See Syncing Your Ad Account for recovery steps.

Click Tracking Configuration

Choose how ClickFortify tracks clicks from your Google Ads campaigns. Three options are available:

Both automated tracking and template are enabled. This gives you:

  • Real-time click monitoring via the tracking template
  • Continued tracking on the landing page via URL suffix
  • Most accurate fraud detection

Final URL Suffix Only

URL suffix automatic tracking only:

  • Click tracking happens only on the landing page
  • No click interception at the ad platform level
  • Less comprehensive but still effective

No automated tracking:

  • You must manually copy and paste tracking codes
  • Two code blocks are provided: full setup (template + suffix) or suffix-only
  • Higher chance of misconfiguration

Tracking Template Details

The settings panel shows your current tracking configuration:

DetailDescription
Auto TaggingWhether Google's auto-tagging is enabled
Tracking TemplateThe current tracking template URL (if set)
Final URL SuffixThe current URL suffix (if set)

A yellow warning icon appears if the tracking template is missing or a campaign is overriding it. See Fixing a Tracking Template Override to resolve this.

Traffic Exclusion Settings

Control how ClickFortify blocks fraudulent traffic:

SettingDescription
IP ExclusionsToggle IP address exclusions for fraud prevention
Audience ExclusionsToggle audience-based exclusions for targeted protection

Both should be enabled for maximum protection.

Campaign Management

Ignored Campaigns

You can exclude specific campaigns from ClickFortify's protection. Ignored campaigns:

  • Are not monitored for fraud
  • Do not trigger exclusion actions
  • Still appear in the campaign list but are marked as ignored

Use this for campaigns where you intentionally want broad reach (e.g., brand awareness) or where exclusions might interfere with your strategy.

Authorization Settings

OAuth Connections

Manage which Google account provides access:

  • View the currently linked Google account (email)
  • Switch to a different OAuth connection
  • A warning appears if the selected authorization has lost access

MCC Connections

For Manager (MCC) accounts:

  • Shows the parent OAuth connection used for access
  • Displays the MCC account email and number
  • Child accounts are accessible through the parent connection

Removing an Account

Click Remove Account at the bottom of the settings panel:

  • Confirms with a dialog before proceeding
  • Option to deactivate all linked campaigns
  • Triggers a background job to remove the tracking template from Google Ads
  • The account is soft-deleted (deactivated, not permanently removed)

Removing an account stops all protection for campaigns under that account. Make sure this is intentional.

Account Limits

Your plan determines how many active ad accounts you can have. If you hit the limit, you'll need to upgrade or deactivate an existing account before adding a new one.
